Family Chat April 2026
Our Family Chats are conducted as a reminder that we are a family of believers—not an organization or business—but brothers and sisters in Christ with, a mutual obligation to serve one another and steward our resources. During our Family Chats, a series of presentations will be made to inform you of what’s happening at ABC Modesto. You are encouraged to provide feedback and ask questions. This is meant to be an interactive time! We will include time for Q&A at the end of the presentations. When our chat is finished, we will share a fellowship meal in the Fellowship Hall. The menu for this Sunday’s Family Chat is homemade tamales, rice, beans, chips, and salsa.
Discussion Agenda
1) Service Time Change (10:45 AM → 10:30 AM)
Most events do not start on the quarter hour; they usually begin at the top of the hour or halfway through. That’s how most people’s lives are organized, and we believe that moving the service to 10:30 AM will make it easier to remember. There have been a number of visitors who declined to attend because they either arrived too early (10:30 AM) or too late (11:00 AM) and did not want to wait or interrupt the service.
2) Membership Code of Conduct
A Membership Code of Conduct will be proposed and shared. No action will be taken at this time; adoption will occur at a future specially called meeting or Family Chat. The purpose of the MCoC is to establish a covenant of behavior for matters such as discipleship, counseling, and church discipline. A document like this is also required by our insurance company. Communities have standards, and we want to clearly and simply define ours, so that all members understand what is expected.
3) Financial Update
A financial presentation will be given, and documents will be made available showing the stewardship of our church’s finances. These reports are produced monthly and outline both income and expenses.
4) Bathroom Update
The elders have determined that, at this time, converting the office building space into a restroom facility is not feasible given the size of our church, the complexity of the project, and the demands it would place on our pastor. The hallway bathroom has been restored for use. What other uses might we consider for the space? If there is still interest in the bathroom project, is anyone willing to take responsibility for leading it?
5) Facility Update
If you haven’t driven down the alley recently, you may not have seen the work that has been completed. Improvements include fresh paint and the installation of a $12,000 French drain system, which has already helped mitigate the flooding issues we have been facing.
6) Relocation Study
Our location has frequently been cited by invited guests as a primary reason for not attending. When combined with demographic factors—namely that we are in an overwhelmingly Spanish-speaking neighborhood—and the ongoing challenges and expenses of maintaining an aging building, this raises the question: Is it worth considering relocation? This will be a discussion topic only. No decision will be made at this meeting beyond whether to further research the issue or set it aside.
7) Upcoming Events
Mother’s Day, Sunday Evening Study, Go Take a Hike, Hymn Sing, and Dessert.
